Opens Friday, January 15th @ 8pm
American Steel, 1960 Mandela Parkway, Oakland, CA

Belly is an independent exhibition of emerging artists who share a curiosity in the co-dependent relationship between the beautiful & the depraved. Introducing the works of recognizable & striving artists alike, Belly was organized from the ground up by those wishing to take full control of not only their work but also the environment in which that work is experienced. Bringing together artists, writers, musicians, & filmmakers, Belly will attempt to transform the 14,000 sqft “American Steel” building into one gift … ranging in scale, medium, & sentiment. Presenting work by individuals who have sold their pieces on street corners, turned run down dentist offices into music venues, planted seeds in sidewalk cracks, crawled onto trains and wheat pasted in boxcars, as well as those who have exhibited in the most prestigious venues, been written up in reportable publications, and still continue to dig jewels out of the dirt under their nails. Each artist will exhibit a substantial individual body of work, and in doing so, will speak to their own understanding of what constitutes our life’s beauty, our personal filth, & the luminous glitter within the decay.

Artist information will be posted soon, check back!
